VR Playroom

One component of the Makerspace is a Virtual Reality playroom, which has so far been very well received by young and old alike.

Although not a ‘core’ aspect of digital fabrication, the Makerspace team sees VR as a potential 3D design platform – sculpt in VR, print in 3D…. as well as a fun point-of-entry into the whole digital fabrication field.

Makerspace Openhouse

The makerspace team opened the doors to the community for the first time on May 4 and 5; this was not a grand opening, but an important consultation/brainstorming event, in preparation for purchasing hardware and designing learning programs.

Although we didn’t have any ‘serious’ equipment yet, we were able to give a few solid demonstrations: the potential for Arduino boards as a platform for learning about coding and electrical systems, the Xcarve as a 3D cutting/engraving tool, and the VR playroom… for exploring and creating 3D models… as well as just having a bit of fun!

Lots of interested community members came by, and it was non-stop weekend of conversations.
